This past week, I was in Las Vegas, attending the Trek to Vegas Convention. I tend to hit this one every couple of years, and as expected, it was amazing! There are so many things I want to talk about related to that experience, but I’ll focus on just one for the moment.
One of the major highlights for me was meeting Bonnie Gordon, who is one of the stars of Star Trek: Prodigy, and she voices the computer. She was incredibly down-to-earth, friendly, and approachable when she spoke during her panel.
She also turned out to be an amazing singer. It was fantastic seeing her perform one night at the convention. After the concert, I took a chance and approached her and said, “Thank you for that, you are very talented.” To my surprise, that led to an invitation to visit her table to chat for a few minutes 🤯.
Roaming the Floor
At these Trek conventions, actors typically have tables to sign autographs and chat with fans. I was eager to visit several actor’s tables to nab signatures while I could. It’s generally packed and hard to get to everyone if you don’t start early.
That day the vendor’s room, where the tables are located, was packed. I tend to be a bit directionally challenged in rooms where there is a lot of traffic, so it wasn’t easy trying to find the people I was looking for. I spent quite a bit of time roaming the floor, catching glimpses of the actors in action.
Chats of the Future
As I was about to leave the vendor area, I saw Bonnie walking back to the vendor room. She recognized me and said, “Hey Victor, I was just heading back to my table. Do you have time to visit?”
“Absolutely,” I replied, explaining that I had looked for her table earlier. She kindly walked with me, and we had a great conversation. I asked her a few basic icebreaker questions, “What do you like to do for fun?”, etc.
She talked about how much fun work is for her. This is an excellent lesson for all of us: we should all strive to do what we love. I found my work crush in my late twenties: storytelling. I’ve never looked back.
We spent a few more minutes talking. All in all, it was an enjoyable conversation. Bonnie is a genuinely lovely person (if you ever read this, Bonnie, thank you for that wonderful experience).
So there you you go, just one of many amazing experiences I had during my Vegas Trek week. I’ll share more in future blog posts and some of the photos I managed to nab with the actors.
This is the first post on my new blog — the first of many. I’d like to thank Erin Lynch, who whipped up my new website and this blog — thank you, my friend. And thanks to my mom, who made the Vegas trip amazing! Thank you for all your loving support. You’re awesome.
Finally, thank you to everyone who is reading my blog. Much love!
